It sounds as if you may be trying to access the article from the New Yorker website.  Even though we do have a print subscription to the journal, that does not mean we will have access to articles through the publisher's website. Access the library homepage and search "New Yorker" in the Journal Finder. You will see that we do have full text coverage for several years of the New Yorker through several databases. Click on a link to full text and follow the links to the specific volume/issue you need for the article you want to read. If full-text is not available for the article you need, search the library catalog as we may very well have the volume you need here in the library. Don't forget you can always stop by the Help Desk on the 3rd floor of the library and we will be glad to help you.
